Peroxide Killers
The residual peroxide present in the fiber will oxidize the reactive dyes, a chromophore that contains the metal ions and leads to tonal variation and sometimes uneven dyeing. In some cases, the chromophore itself is getting destroyed into a colorless product and lead to pale or white patchy dyeing. Hence the removal of residual peroxide is very much essential before starting a good dyeing operation. A chemical that kills the residual peroxide in the fibre is termed as a peroxide killer.

Wetting Agent and Detergent
Textile fibers in their unprocessed form are hydrophobic and do not absorb water. Wetting agents are auxiliaries which help in wetting the surface, by reducing its surface tension and help water or chemical penetrate the fiber surface and thus help in wet processing.

Bleaching Aids
Cotton fibres contain many impurities like oils, fats, waxes, dirt dust particles and natural coloring matter. Bleaching is a process of removing natural impurities present in the cotton fibre and thus making it ready for further wet processing operations.

Catonising Agent

Dye-Fixing Agent

pH-sliding and Acid Buffer

Anti-pilling agent

Oil water repellents are fluorocarbons with fluorine replacing a minimum of one hydrogen atom. Stiffener

Yellowing Preventer
Yellowing mostly occurs when storing fabrics or garments in the warehouse. Plastic packaging material, like polybags contain BHT (butylated hydroxy toluene). This is an antioxidant that prevents degradation of the plastic. This BHT gets transferred to the fabric, also from carton boxes, a phenol (derivate) can be carried over to the textile. It can react with the nitrogen oxide (NOx) in the air and forms nitrobenzenes or quinone (or chinone), which is a yellow chemical substance. To avoid this yellowing preventers are applied on the fabric.
Heat-setting of wet fabric will also caused increased yellowing. Direct heated stenters produce NOx fumes by oxidation of nitrogen. These fumes are attacking the oils and the fibres during the setting operation, thereby causing yellowing. Moulding of fabrics (viz., women’s sports bra) leads to yellowing.

UV Protective Agents
Protection of the skin against the action of solar radiation is a an important aspect in textile finishing. Textiles are a second skin to humans, and are wore to safeguard the skin from external agencies like wind, water, sunlight, etc. Since not all textile substrates guarantee adequate UV protection, UV protective agents are required to be incorporated in textile finishing to improve the UPF of the fabrics.
